Choreomania

  • Choreomania is a new musical by Evie Atkin (music and lyrics) and Evie Press (book and lyrics), telling the story of the dancing plague of 1518.

The musical follows three groups in the town: the manic dancers, the terrified townsfolk, and the corrupt clergy trying to solve the crisis. The town crumbling under the weight of decades of natural disasters and uncaring leadership. And when ordinary townsfolk begin to dance, not even stopping when their feet start to bleed, it’s up to the clergy to save them. And it’s up to the people to save themselves from the clergy.

Choreomania fuses the sounds of EDM and musical theatre to create a pulse-raising journey of terror, ecstasy, corruption and faith to ask: is change ever really coming?

  • I am the librettist for Choreomania, working in a writing duo with composer and lyricist Evie Atkin.

  • The show had its first performance at the Birmingham Hippodrome through British Youth Music Theatre (BYMT) in August 2025.

It was a fantastic process and showcase of the young people’s hard work and the show itself, and Evie Atkin and I are excited to continue developing the show further!
